Rideshare driver earnings tracker for Australian drivers

A weekly total says what arrived. Better records explain which trips, hours, categories and areas produced it—and what the work cost.

What should a driver measure?

Track gross trip income, other income such as promotions and referrals, online and active or engaged time where those source figures are available, distance, trip count and operating expenses. Keep platform deductions visible instead of treating the bank deposit as gross earnings.

Hourly performance needs a consistent denominator. “Per active hour” and “per total online hour” answer different questions, so use figures from the same period, choose the measure you can record reliably and label it clearly.

Online hour vs active hour: which earnings rate should you use?

Total online time is the full period you were logged in and available for work, including time spent waiting between bookings. Active, booked or engaged time is the portion spent on accepted work. The precise start and end points can vary by platform, so use the definitions shown in your own platform statement rather than assuming the labels are interchangeable.

Use gross earnings and hours covering the same dates. Gross earnings per online hour measures the return across the whole shift, including unpaid waiting. Gross earnings per active hour measures the return during booked work. The active-hour result will usually be higher because it uses a smaller denominator and excludes some or all waiting time.

Neither gross rate is profit. Fuel or charging, platform and service fees, tolls that were not reimbursed, cleaning, insurance, vehicle costs and other operating expenses can materially change the result. Use the rideshare expenses and bookkeeping guide to keep the cost side organised. For connected quarterly and vehicle-use records, see the rideshare BAS and GST guide and the rideshare driver logbook guide.

Look for repeatable patterns

Compare days and hours over several weeks rather than reacting to one exceptional shift. Break results down by ride category and suburb. A busy area is not always a profitable area once unpaid repositioning, waiting and expenses are considered.

Also review fare discrepancies. A small underpayment repeated across many trips can matter, while a single unusually high fare can distort an average. If a payment looks wrong, follow the Australian rideshare fare-check process and preserve the result with the trip.

A five-minute end-of-shift routine

  1. Import or enter missing trips.
  2. Run fare checks on questionable payments.
  3. Add bonuses, promotions and other income.
  4. Scan fuel, charging, toll or cleaning receipts.
  5. Review the dashboard and add a note about unusual conditions.

How EarningsPilotAU helps

The dashboard summarises recorded trip income, other income and expenses, while Analytics visualises recorded patterns by day, hour of day, ride category and suburb. AI Insights can surface predictions, recommendations and alerts from the recorded history. Treat these as observations to test, not guaranteed earnings forecasts.

Where your platform statement or another reliable source provides total online and active-hour figures, use those source figures alongside the earnings and expense records in EarningsPilotAU to calculate and compare both hourly rates. The app records individual trip duration, but it does not automatically collect every platform’s complete online or active-hour totals, and total trip duration should not be treated as a substitute for either measure.

Trip history preserves actual fares, expected fares, discrepancies, disputes and later corrected amounts. Expense tracking adds the cost side, and Google Sheets sync gives you a separate formatted trip and expense record for deeper analysis.

Questions your data should answer

  • Which hours produce strong results consistently?
  • Which categories and pickup areas perform better for your driving pattern?
  • How much gross income came from trips versus promos or referrals?
  • Which expenses are rising?
  • Are fare discrepancies isolated or recurring?

Use the answers to form a small experiment for the next week, then compare like with like. The goal is not more dashboard time; it is a clearer driving decision.
